How it works
Most QR codes store a link. This one stores the message itself: when someone scans it, the text appears on their screen immediately. The code is the container — there is nothing to host, nothing to expire, and it reads even with no signal.
- Type your message — a code word, a password, a short instruction.
- Optional: add your logo, pick a pattern style and match the colors to your brand.
- Download a PNG for screens or an SVG for your print shop.
Where people put theirs
- Shared spaces: a door or gate code that guests scan instead of reading aloud to strangers.
- Events and pickups: a code word or table name, so nobody guesses or mistypes.
- Renting and hospitality: instructions where they're needed — “bins go out Tuesday” inside the cupboard door.
- Classrooms and workshops: a prompt, a quote, a clue — scan and read.
Good to know
- Anyone who scans it can read it. The text is encoded in the code itself — don't put a Wi-Fi password in a public text code; use our Wi-Fi generator, which joins the network directly instead of showing the password.
- Denser means print bigger. A full 250-character code has small modules — use the comfortable size, not the minimum.
- Permanent by design. Nothing is hosted, so nothing can lapse. Print once and it keeps working forever.
Common questions
What is a plain text QR code?
A QR code that simply shows the text you typed when scanned — up to 250 characters. No website, no app, no link: the message itself is encoded in the code, so it displays even with no internet connection.
Is this text QR code generator free?
Yes. No signup, no account, no watermark. The code is generated in your browser, and the PNG and SVG downloads are yours to use anywhere.
What do people use text QR codes for?
Wi-Fi passwords, gate and door codes, code words for events and pickups, short instructions, quotes on posters, inventory notes — anywhere the information itself is the point and there's nothing to link to.
Why 250 characters?
The more text a code carries, the denser its pattern gets and the harder it is for a camera to read. 250 characters keeps the code comfortably scannable at normal print sizes.
Can I add my logo to the code?
Yes. Upload your logo and it appears in the center of the code; error correction is raised to its highest level (30%) to keep it scannable. Text codes are denser than link codes, so print them at the comfortable size from our size calculator.
Promoting something instead?
Profit builds whole campaigns
If your code needs to promote a business — a menu, an offer, a sign-up — tell Profit what you're promoting and it drafts the full set: a short video, social captions, a flyer, an email and more, all sharing the same message.
